The parish school, St Mary's Church of England Primary, is a voluntary aided school with the parish priest having an ex officio role on the governing body. There are strong links between the church and the parish school with weekly clergy led worship held in school being an integral part of the Christian ethos of the school and highly valued by both the school and the church community.
The clergy are actively involved in the school and often teach classes and visit different groups in school. The last OFSTED inspection judged the school to be Outstanding and great value is placed on high standards in every aspect of school life. The 2022 SIAMS inspection rated the school as Excellent. The school participates in and contributes to several 10:30am Sunday services throughout the year and hold their Easter, Christmas and end of year services in church.
Please remember that it is the parent/guardian's responsibility to ensure their child's record is correctly marked if they are anticipating applying for a place at St Mary's School under the criteria for members of St Mary's Church, or a place at Bury Church School. When attending an act of worship in church, please ensure that your signing in slip is accurately completed and left in the box at the back of church - only sign-in slips returned on the relevant day will be able to be included; any returned to church at a later time will be discounted (details of the St Mary's School admissions criteria is on the School website).
For admissions for the school year 2025-2026 there have been some changes to the Admissions Policy, which is now available to view on the school website. Please note that now children themselves have to be present at acts of church worship for an attendance mark.
Please refer to the School's website for further information.
